Don Amal Raj torna in India: il suo saluto affettuoso alla comunità di Civitella del Tronto

CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO – “Il Signore mi ha fatto un grande dono: i miei 10 anni qui sono stati un’esperienza bellissima che porterò sempre nel cuore.”: queste le parole di don Amal Raj che domani saluterà l’Italia e tornerà in India, dopo 10 anni di cammino nella Diocesi di San Benedetto – Ripatransone – Montalto, in particolare come collaboratore della Parrocchia di San Pietro Apostolo a Ripe di Civitella del Tronto.

Perché va via dalla nostra Diocesi?
“Il mio mandato qui è terminato. Io appartengo alla congregazione degli Araldi della Buona Novella, una società di vita apostolica della Chiesa Cattolica fondata in India. Il suo scopo è quello di suscitare vocazioni al sacerdozio e di formare il clero per le missioni ed i territori dove mancano. Attualmente siamo presenti in moltissime parti del mondo, come, ad esempio, Guatemala, Kenya, Italia, Paesi bassi, Papa Nuova Guinea, Sudafrica, Tanzania, Uganda e Stati Uniti d’America. Io sono entrato a farne parte nel 2005 e, dopo qualche anno di esperienza in tre diocesi indiane, sono stato assegnato alla Diocesi di San Benedetto – Ripatransone – Montalto nel 2010 per un mandato decennale con la lettera d’invio ed approvazione da parte del Vescovo Diocesano. All’epoca c’era Monsignor Gervasio Gestori che mi assegnò alla comunità di Ripe. Successivamente anche il nostro attuale Vescovo, Carlo Bresciani, ha ratificato la decisione presa dal suo predecessore ed io ho continuato la mia opera presso questa parrocchia abruzzese che resterà sempre nel mio cuore.”

A quale nuova Diocesi è stato assegnato?
“Andrò in India, la mia patria originaria, ma non nel luogo in cui sono nato (Sothupakkam, Tamil Nadu), bensì in una località chiamata Khammam, Telungana, presso il Seminario Maggiore, quello in cui ho studiato e che ora ospita 70 Seminaristi, alcuni dei quali iscritti alla facoltà di Teologia ed altri a quella di Filosofia. Si tratterà, quindi, di un’esperienza completamente diversa da quella vissuta finora. Qui a Ripe mi sono occupato dei malati, dei bambini, dei funerali e dei battesimi; in India, invece, tornerò come economo del seminario. Anche se mi dispiace tantissimo lasciare gli amici che ho conosciuto qui in Italia, sono altrettanto contento di tornare in India per una nuova missione. Nel Credo ogni Domenica professiamo la nostra fede ed affermiamo di credere in una Chiesa Cattolica Universale: questo significa che, se siamo vicini, quello che ci unisce è la presenza; se, invece, siamo lontani, quello che ci unisce è la preghiera, quindi la fede. Pertanto, anche se lontani, saremo sempre uniti nell’unica fede in Cristo.”

Cosa le resterà di questi anni in Italia? Quale è il ricordo più bello?
“Prima di tutto questi lunghi anni mi hanno permesso di conoscere una nuova cultura e una nuova lingua, quindi resteranno per sempre tra i miei ricordi più belli. Poi devo dire che, quando sono giunto in Italia, ero solo un giovane, mentre ora sono diventato più maturo: ho avuto un percorso personale di crescita considerevole.

Tanti sono gli episodi che hanno contribuito a temprare il mio corpo ed il mio spirito! Qui a Civitella del Tronto ho vissuto con i miei compaesani la terribile esperienza del terremoto, le conseguenze spaventose della frana che ha colpito il paese, i disagi delle abbondanti nevicate (come ad esempio quando siamo rimasti senza corrente elettrica per due settimane). Ma, allo stesso tempo, ho dei ricordi bellissimi, come la sensazione di pace e commozione che ho provato ogni volta che abbiamo detto la Messa per la prima volta nella Grotta di San Michele Arcangelo. Tanti Civitellesi, che negli anni si sono trasferiti in altre città, mi hanno chiamato e mi hanno chiesto di essere contattati l’anno successivo, così da poter prendere parte a quella Messa durante la tradizionale festa del paese.”

Che messaggio vuole lasciare alle persone che l’hanno conosciuta?
“Voglio prima di tutto ringraziare i Vescovi Gervasio Gestori e Carlo Bresciani per avermi permesso di stare in Italia, in mezzo a questa bellissima comunità di Civitella del Tronto. Poi ringrazio tutte le persone con cui ho collaborato: i parroci Don Tommaso Capriotti, don Elvezio Di Matteo, don Luigi Scarponi e don Stefano Iacono; il vicario don Marco Di Giosia; i diaconi Galliano Ciccarelli e don Giovanni Scarciglia; i frati della Madonna dei Lumi di Civitella; il mio confratello Padre Aro con cui ho studiato in seminario e che ora si trova a Rotella. Infine ringrazio tutti i fedeli delle zone di Ripe, Villa Passo, Piano Risteccio e Rocche di Civitella con cui sono stato benissimo: mi hanno subito accolto, sono stati sempre disponibili e mi hanno supportato costantemente con la loro presenza e partecipazione. Posso tranquillamente dire di essermi sentito a casa, visto che in questi dieci anni ho sempre sentito il loro affetto.”

A don Amal dunque, oltre al profondo sentimento di gratitudine, va l’augurio, commosso e sincero, della comunità di Civitella per la nuova missione da svolgere.

Don Amal Raj returns to India: his affectionate greeting to the community of Ripe di Civitella

CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO (ITALY) – “The Lord gave me a great gift: my 10 years here were a beautiful experience that I will always Keep in my heart.”: These are the words of Fr Amal Raj, who tomorrow will greet Italy and return to India, after 10 years of mission in the Diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto – Ripatransone – Montalto, in particular as a collaborator of the Parish St. Peter the Apostle in Civitella del Tronto.

Why are you leaving our Diocese?

“My mission here is ended. I belong to the Congregation of the Heralds of Good News, a missionary society of apostolic life in the Catholic Church founded in India. Its purpose is to arouse vocations to the priesthood, to train them to be zealous priests  and to send them to every part of the world where there is a need of priests. Currently we are present in many parts of the world, such as Guatemala, Kenya, Italy, the Netherlands, Papa New Guinea, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and the United States of America. I joined it in 2005 and, after a few years of experience in three Indian Dioceses, I was assigned to the Diocese of San Benedetto – Ripatransone – Montalto in 2010 for a ten-years mission on the invitation of the Diocesan Bishop. At that time there was Most Reverend Gervasio Gestori who assigned me to the Ripe’s community. Subsequently the current Bishop,Most Reverend Carlo Bresciani, ratified the decision taken by his predecessor and I continued my mission at this Parish  in the region called Abruzzo that will always remain in my heart. ”

What is your new mission after the completion  of your 10 years mission here in Italy?

“I will go to India, my original homeland, but not to the place where I was born (Sothupakkam, Tamil Nadu), but to a place called Khammam, Telungana, to the Major Seminary, the one where I studied and where 70 Seminarians reside now. We do have both the faculties of Theology and Philosophy. Therefore it will be a completely different experience. Here in Ripe I have dealt with sick and elderly people, children, funerals and baptisms; in India, on the other hand, I will return as the procurator of the Major Seminary. Although I am very sad to leave the friends I met here in Italy, I am equally well determinated to give my best for a new mission in India. Every Sunday in the Creed we profess our faith and we affirm that we believe in a Universal Catholic Church: this means that, if we are nearby, what unites us is the presence; on the other hand, if we are far away, what unites us is the prayer, therefore the faith. In other words, even if we are distant, we will always be united in one faith in Christ.”

What do you take back to India from these years in Italy? What is your best memory?

“First of all, these long years have allowed me to get to know a new culture and a new language, so for me this will remain forever as the best memories. When I arrived in Italy, I was a young man, but now I am a more mature adult with experience: I have had a personal path of considerable growth. There are so many episodes that have helped me to temper my body and my spirit! Here in Civitella del Tronto I lived with my fellow villagers the terrible experience of the earthquake, the frightening consequences of the landslide that hit the town, the discomforts of big snowfalls (that left us without electricity for two weeks). But, at the same time, I have wonderful memories, such as the feeling of peace and emotion that I felt every time whenever we said Mass at the Grotto of St. Michael the Arcangel. Many natives, who over the years have moved to other cities, called me and asked me to keep informing for the following year the dates, so that they could also take part in that Mass during the traditional village festival. ”

What message do you want to leave to the people who knew you?

“First of all I want to thank Bishops Gervasio Gestori and Carlo Bresciani for giving me this opportunity to be in Italy, in particular in this beautiful community of Civitella del Tronto. Then I thank all the members who collaborated with me: the priests fr. Tommaso Capriotti, fr. Elvezio Di Matteo, fr. Luigi Scarponi and fr. Stefano Iacono; the vicar fr. Marco Di Giosia; the deacons don Galliano Ciccarelli and don Giovanni Scarciglia; the friars of the Madonna dei Lumi in Civitella; my brother fr. Aro with whom I studied in the seminary and who now works in Rotella, Italy. Finally, I thank all the faithful of the Ripe, Villa Passo, Piano Risteccio and Rocche di Civitella areas with whom I had a great time: they welcomed me immediately, they were always available and constantly supported me with their presence and participation. I can certainly say that I felt at home here during these ten years and I have always felt their affection and love. ”

Therefore, in addition to the profound sentiment of gratitude, the heartfelt and moved wishes of the community of Ripe of Civitella and all our wishes go to Fr. Amal for his new mission.
